????孩提時(shí)代，歐諾?佐伊特夢(mèng)想著成為一名樂(lè)高積木的設(shè)計(jì)師。8歲時(shí)，他擁有了人生中的第一臺(tái)電腦，它點(diǎn)燃了一個(gè)男孩對(duì)人工智能的興趣。如今佐伊特已經(jīng)進(jìn)入施樂(lè)歐洲實(shí)驗(yàn)室（Xerox Labs Europe）工作，他研究的重點(diǎn)是如何緩解洛杉磯的交通擁堵。佐伊特表示：“我們對(duì)停車(chē)問(wèn)題了解的不多，因?yàn)樗枰罅繒r(shí)間來(lái)觀察。”為此，佐伊特的團(tuán)隊(duì)在全市各處的停車(chē)場(chǎng)安裝了大量傳感器。傳感器收集的信息會(huì)反饋到一款智能手機(jī)應(yīng)用上，這樣司機(jī)就可以隨時(shí)了解哪些停車(chē)場(chǎng)已經(jīng)停滿(mǎn)了，哪些停車(chē)場(chǎng)的車(chē)位還空著。更妙的是，城市可以根據(jù)這些數(shù)據(jù)調(diào)節(jié)這些停車(chē)場(chǎng)的停車(chē)費(fèi)，以降低高度擁堵地區(qū)的車(chē)流量。自從這個(gè)項(xiàng)目在2012年問(wèn)世以來(lái)，洛杉磯的交通擁堵已經(jīng)緩解了10%。——Shalene Gupta

????As a child, OnnoZoeter wanted to be a Lego designer. Then he got his first computer at the age of 8. It sparked an interest in artificial intelligence. Today Zoeter works at Xerox Labs Europe , where he focuses on reducing traffic congestion in Los Angeles. “We know very little about parking because it takes a lot of time to observe,” Zoeter says. Zoeter’s team installed sensors in parking spaces across the sprawling city in an effort to bridge that knowledge gap. The data feed into a smartphone app that drivers can use to determine in real time which spaces are full and which ones are empty. Even better? With that data, the city is able to change the price of those parking spaces to reduce traffic in highly congested areas. Since the project went live in 2012, congestion in Los Angeles has dropped by 10%. —Shalene Gupta
